Mardi Gras for Kelli is a New Orleans themed dance party to raise funds for a 19 year-old girl who has been ill for the past several years with ulcerative colitis, a variant of Crohn's Disease. She has undergone numerous procedures and hospital stays that have forced her to leave school. As a result, her and her family now face significant medical bills. Mardi Gras for Kelli is a grass-roots effort to raise funds for her and to raise awareness of this life-threatening disease.
Mardi Gras is traditionally the day before Ash Wednesday. Cultures around the world celebrate this event in various ways, including the Rio de Janiero Carnival held in Brazil. We like to think that no one does it better than the New Orleans version created by the Creole population in the Gulf Coast. Today, we most often associate Mardi Gras with the two-week long celebration that takes place in New Orleans, involving lots of parades, festivals, Cajun food, and (of course) that sweet sounding music of the Crescent City. Mardi Gras for Kelli will bring this celebration to Portland for what promises to be a terrific event for a great cause.
You really can't throw a Mardi Gras party and not have musicians from New Orleans, can you? So, we've lined up some very special guests: The Three Twins. The band is comprised of three members of the New Orleans music staple the subdudues: John Magnie, Steve Amedee, and Tim Cook. In addition to having tremendous success as members of the subdudes, they have become extremely well known in Colorado for their own take on New Orleans music and are well known for throwin' a great dance party. They have graciously agreed to come to Portland in a rare appearance to support this event.
